How the Ads Work is a marketing blog and podcast that helps marketers overcome the anxieties associated with AI. By teaching marketers how today’s ad platforms think, we'll help you understand the basics as to how machine learning technology behind the scenes functions, so that you can use that to become a better marketer and hopefully a better person too .

Hi! I'm your guide here, Ryan Aynz. For over 15+ years I've made a name for myself as a Global Marketing Leader. Partly for my experience building multiple Digital Agencies across the globe and partly for my work as a Marketing Director - where I've led Brand Management for some of the fastest growing CPG product lines in the world.
But in recent years, there have been times where instead of celebrating big wins, I’ve found myself acting more like a KPI Defense Attorney for agencies and a Performance Investigator for brand teams—always playing the middle man when it comes to arguments over who should get credit for the sale.
That’s when it hit me: even with all the AI, data, and tracking we have today, the gap between what everyone believes drives results has only gotten bigger, not smaller. Which means that we’re all chasing the same goals, but we’re not speaking the same language when it comes to how those goals can be achieved. And that disconnect leads to drama, frustration, and unnecessary resets.
So what’s the solution?
Simple: learn how the ads work.
I built this site to share everything I’ve learned—and continue to learn—about modern marketing, machine learning, and the mechanics behind how advertising truly operates. Because, when you understand how the systems work, you can speak the right language, make better decisions, and apply the principles immediately, no matter your role or skill level.
And maybe one day, when the next generation—including my kids—asks, “How do the ads work?” they’ll finally have a real answer and a place to start.

I've had some success and have been fortunate enough to be a go-to resource on both Bloomberg and Fox Business. In case you're not sold yet, I've also been featured in Entrepreneur Magazine and AdWeek.
What this means is that I am the greatest ever- Joking, no matter my or anyones past accomplishments, the future is always being re-written and when that happens so goes what we learned too.
For example, at the time of writing this I was recovering from an all-nighter that involved digging deep into every blog and YouTube video I could find to see if anyone had figured out how to perfect a certain growth hack that was getting shared thanks to a new Shopify update.
This is the reality of digital advertising is today and where it's headed- there won't been thought leaders in the future, just the ones "Who did that thing no one else could first". As for whether or not I discovered what I was looking for, keep reading and you'll find out.
